Tuesday, 29 April – At exactly 06:15:52 and 573 milli seconds (local time in Kourou), the Vega-C launcher ignited and took to the skies, carrying Biomass on its long-anticipated journey into space. With hearts full of anticipation and eyes turned to the sky, we witnessed the moment we’ve all been working toward—Biomass is now on its way to orbit.
This launch marks not just the culmination of years of preparation, dedication, and collaboration, but also the beginning of a new chapter in Earth observation. From this moment on, Biomass begins its mission: mapping the world’s forests with unprecedented precision, providing essential data to understand the carbon cycle and monitor our planet’s changing climate.
Separation occurred just under an hour after lift-off. The signal from the satellite was successfully received by the Troll ground station in Antarctica—a powerful confirmation that Biomass is alive and well.
To everyone who has followed this journey, supported the mission, or played a role in making this launch possible: thank you. Today, we celebrate a launch—Biomass is flying. The mission begins. A bit later in Kourou, the post-launch review confirmed the success of the operation. The countdown ran smoothly, the launcher performed flawlessly, and the satellite injection was spot on. As expected, the signal acquisition over Troll confirmed everything was on track.
